Prince Edward Island: Museums, Rustico

In 1725 a Norman peasant named Rene Rassicot moved with his seven sons and three daughters from Port le Joie (Charlottetown) to what is now Rustico Harbour and established a fishing station. The name Rustico is an Anglicized corruption of his name. The French name for the community was Restice.

Rustico, one of the early Acadian settlements , is an important fisheries port, and features a Fisheries Museum. The very best Deep Sea Fishing excursions on the eastern seaboard and a marina for pleasure boats. This bustling village offers dining, a Lobster Supper restaurant, banking, kayaking, shopping, craft stores and accommodations. It also has a wonderful boardwalk along the harbor. The Village and harbor are adjacent to the beaches of the Prince Edward Island National Park.
